Paper circuits taught you the rules. Now break the flat: the same copper tape works on a sleeve, a hat brim, a jacket seam — even directly on your arm.

The two-wire mental model

Every wearable circuit you’ll ever build is two copper paths that must never touch:

  1. One tape line is the positive wire — the battery’s + face and every LED’s long leg connect to it.
  2. A second line, kept apart from the first, is the negative wire — the battery’s − face and the short legs land there.

Keep those two rules and you can route light along any seam, brim, or hemline your design demands.

Activity: Circuit on a body

Transfer your paper-circuit skills to something wearable: a cuff of copper tape on your forearm, a lit collar, a glowing shoe. Curved surfaces will fight you exactly where flat paper didn’t — that’s the skill being built. (Copper tape is skin-safe and peels off easily; it’s the same material stained-glass artists handle all day.)

Level up: make an object join the circuit. A paper clip, a foil star, a key — anything conductive can become a working part of the path. Can you make the accessory itself the switch: circuit closed when the bracelet clasps, open when it doesn’t?

The fairy-light hack

Need a lot of light with almost no circuitry? A strand of battery-powered fairy lights, hacked apart, is the fastest route from “dark garment” to “runway ready”:
