Zachary working on his laser-cut art installation

Zachary is a artist and maker living between Shenzhen and the US. He came to SteamHead to work on the design and construction of this laser cut lamp, which has become quite famous in Shenzhen.

The 7 layers are individually designed in Adobe Illustrator from a master plan, each layer varying position to show a 3D effect when laser cut and stacked together. Zachary was welcomed at MG Space, a local space focused on student education, to do the actual laser cutting.

Since construction the piece has been featured at 3 Maker Faires, been seen by thousands of onlookers, and inspired many hobbyists to create their own 2D to 3D creations!

As part of his Resident Educator duties, Zachary has also coached makers at SteamHead Makerspace in his design techniques, and provided technical expertise in the areas of laser cutting and LED usage.
