Badge Levels

We don't tend to measure Open Badges with traditional grading systems.

We don’t tend to measure Open Badges with traditional grading systems. Instead, we adopted a “Skill Matrix” from project management systems, to indicate the level of skill used to earn a badge.

  • Badge Level 1 holders have received a lecture on the skill, and can answer test questions.

  • Badge Level 2 holders have performed the skill with assistance, for example by following a set of clear instructions or by having a mentor lead them through a pre-designed project.

  • Badge Level 3 holders have use the skill independently, following their own design plan and deciding to use the skill to solve a particular problem. Opportunities where a person can solve a problem using skills of their own choice are sometimes rare. Seek them out.

  • Badge Level 4 holders have led others into receiving Level 2 Badges! Note, the levels are not always sequential!
